And Jesus said to them, “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of people.”
This saying reveals the powerful and gracious nature of Christ’s call. He not only invites people to follow after Him, but also promises to transform them and prepare them for a new service. The expression “fishers of people” does not mean violent domination over people, but bringing them out of the sea of sin and leading them onto the path of life. Just as until then they gathered fish with a net, so now they were to gather people with the word of the Gospel. This verse shows that true discipleship begins with following the Lord, and in that journey the Lord Himself shapes His servants.
